Good Nigerians? House of Reps Suspend Buying Exotic Cars

Maybe we should have only the House of Reps and scrap the senate and stop double spending...
The House of Reps has put on hold plans to purchase 360 exotic cars for its members.

Investigations showed that the funds to prosecute the purchase remained the main drawback for the House in taking a final decision on the controversial “utility” or “committee” cars.

“Funding for the cars will come from 2016 budget. As you are aware, the budget has not been passed. The passage of the budget will decide how much will be available for vehicles,” a House official said.

It was also learnt that the House had yet to decide on the brand of cars to buy for the lawmakers, who were split on whether to settle for Peugeot 508 saloon cars or the 2015 model of Toyota Camry.

Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited reportedly started advertising the 508 series to lawmakers since December 2015 in a bid to get them to patronise the local assembly plant.

The firm was said to have sent catalogues to the House to promote the features of the 508 series.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, said “I think this car issue has generated too much hues and cries. The House has not bought any cars for now."

Hope they patronize something that is assembled in Nigeria at least when they decide to buy the cars.

  6. This is why some of us have been suggesting that legislation would be made a part time job because when you look at how many times they sit in a week and the accrued benefits, its just a rippoff on national economy.

  10. Good for them! But, Nigerians should ask the upper house, where they got the money, used to order for their cars, when the 2016, had not been approved.

  12. I beg this administration should give prudence a priority, buying exotic cars is like adding insult to the injury of the masses at this period. That is one of the reasons people believe presidential system of government is expensive, having two chambers for legislative (Rep & Senate) itself gulp more money, if possible for us to make it a part-time or to adopt unicameral legislature to reduce exorbitant cost in financing this legislatures.

  13. I saluted the courage of house of reps members. Senators are most useless and problematic people.
