Shameful Death Of 7month Old Baby Boy At Ayodele Hospital In Fagba, Lagos

I wept while going through this sad tale of an innocent child...I tell you, it is indeed sad how some hospitals these days treat human life like "rubbish". This is too bad! Read the details:
I am forwarding this mail to you on behalf of a young couple that is close to me. I am a fan of your blog. In fact, I hardly take my morning breakfast without going through your blog each day.
This incident happened in a popular private hospital called Ayodele Hospital in Fagba off Iju Road. The baby was brought to the hospital on Saturday February 6, 2016.
Before taking the boy to the hospital, he was taken to Ifako Ijaiye General hospital on Wednesday February 3, 2016, for treatment as a result of teething fever. The boy was apparently running high fever as a result of teething problem. At the General hospital he was given injection to bring down the temperature and after all was discharged. He was okay by our understanding then.
On Saturday morning the temperature started rising again...
His wife took the baby back to the hospital and was told that there is no bed space. She was referred to Ayinke Hospital in Ikeja . Considering the distance and all the troubles so far, the father decided to take him to a big private hospital around. That was how the baby was taken to Ayodele in fagba.

At the private hospital he was admitted and they tried getting the vein in order to pass drip and to administer medication. They could not get the vein easily so they decided using the vein in the head . They started administering the drip . Not quite long, they told the parents that the baby is not breathing fine due to the catarrh he has and that they have to place him on oxygen.

After some hours, the light went off. They called the nurses to inform the gateman to put on the generator and for an hour the hospital did not respond accordingly. The baby gave up after gasping for breath. The parents watched their baby die for what could be avoided. The father was so traumatized that he was ready to pull down the hospital for such negligence and the placing of the baby at the waste bin as if it was a dog that died (see picture).

In the process policemen from Oko Oba were called in to arrest the father. Though he was released later. Despite all these negligence, the hospital is asking them to pay N38,000 before they can take the corpse for burial.

The parents are asking for justice. The death of their baby should not be swept under. Someone should pay for such wickedness.

I enclose the telephone number of the father for you to get a direct account of what really transpired. (Mr Bode - 0806 689 4339).

The world need to know about this. This kind of hospitals should not be allowed to operate in a sane society. A life that could have been saved has just been lost. A future and hapless baby's life has been cut short on the altar of negligence.

  8. That’s barbaric somebody reported to have lost his baby as a result of their negligence yet he was arrested & released on bail, too bad. They ought to have value for human life, money is not everything, this matter might lead to what the hospital least expected.

  20. Wow...!my family have been using this Hospital since 2007, their MD is very customer satisfying and effective. Even there was a time his staff was rude and I reported via his phone number placed conspicuously at the Hospital lobby. He came down to the Hospital in a jiffy and I was attended to promptly. Seeing this picture of a baby outside. .although we are not sure if it's baby or cloth. We need to hear from the Hospital too before judging. May God grant the couple the fortitude to bear the loss and He shall bless them with a new baby soon.

  21. This same hospital nearly murder my neighbor last year due to their negligence and un professional conduct in the discharge of their duties. The man had wiclo on his hand and they cut open without checking whether it is ripe enough or whether the patient is diabetic . We had to take the patient to Gbagada General hospital after paying over seventy something thousand naira with no improvement . Government really need to monitor all these quacks masquerading as doctors.

  24. i was a witness to the event. it was however sad that the child died due to the critical condition of the child before bringing the child to the hospital. however the fact that there was a blackout for an hour is unavoidably false. there was however a time of light out for few minutes and in addition, it is impossible to place a patient on oxygen for hours and then light goes for one hour. i alongside my husband went for our own baby treatment since Thursday. if the child had died, it was not due to the negligence of the hospital, don't put hospital into disrepute and closing the hospital. avoid giving in-factual information to the public to sell your blog. and for all things worth, i am not in any way related or affiliated to both the staff of the hospital or any patient for that matter.

  25. First am so sorry for your loss . However if the story were to b true should we blame d hospital dor the black out of blame d gov dor inconsistent power supply? Am sure what the baby had was not teething problem(the public need to be educated on this teething priblem nonsense) most time something else would go wrong with a child and we call it teething. This baby could possibly have sepsis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, malaria etc the family were referd to the general hospital cos they needed a pediatrician so I ask does ayodele have a pediatrician? Its never how big or small an hospital is but what specialty they can handle. It sad d çhild died and am for justice if truly this was a case of negligence but lets b careful in talking abt what we know little or nothing about. Yes the hospital should b investigated but in our grieve let b careful what we say. I av no affiliation with ayodele but am a medical practitioner and alot happen in hospitals that patients and relatives have no idear of. In all this if truly that is d babies body at the corridor, hmmmmmm the hospital can do better with cops. Even d death should b respected.
